Care
Thin your plants when they are approximately 8 to 10 cm tall, so they are 20 to 30 cm apart. Take care to not damage the roots when weeding. Make sure the soil is well drained and able to keep a consistent level of moisture. In dry conditions it is necessary to water the plants to ensure the shallow roots are kept moist.
Soil
Zea mays grows best on well drained and fertile loamy or alluvial soils. However, it is possible to grow maize on a wide variety of soils ranging from sand to clay. The crop is tolerant to soil acidity, neutralizing soil acidity through liming can increase yields.
Climate
One reason why maize is grown all over the world is its ability to grow in a wide range of agro-climatic conditions. However, moderate temperatures and rainfall are most favorable for the crop.
