Dolores Tunnell Agree with Fuzail. I get bacterial diseases every year in my garden in South Carolina. Almost everything is affected, to include tomatoes. The chemicals to treat the diseases are moderately toxic and really expensive so I don't bother using them. Instead, I've played around with a lot of tomato varieties to see what resists bacterial spot and speck the best, and I found Rutgers tomatoes are the most hardy. They will eventually get it, but it took almost 4 months last year for the tomato to get the disease which is better than any other variety. Another tip is to succession plant. You can also grow cherry tomato varieties instead. Certain cherry tomatoes, like the classic red grow so fast they can outrun the disease. Just make sure you have a big trellis. Also, use at least a 3 inch mulch to prevent water splashing up from the bottom soil and water at soil level and avoid overhead watering. If the disease covers the entire plant, consider removing and burning it to prevent spreading. The disease overwinters in soil for a minimum of 1 year. So ensure you remove any garden debris and change out your mulch. There is no known 100% effective treatment, so an integrated and varied approach is best. Hope this helps.
