Hello, in the early stages it is difficult, because both diseases share the same symptoms with minor variations. The easiest way to find out if it is eyespot is to hold the leaf against the light (check out my picture). As the disease progresses, the centers of the spots darken to a tan color with a brown or purple border. When the leaf is held to the light, the lesion border may show a yellow halo, giving the corn disease its name: “eyespot.”
