Gummy Stem Blight of Cucurbits - Cucumber

Cucumber Cucumber

E

First time planting. I think my cucumbers are dying. Not sure what the problem is or what I'm doing wrong. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

In the evening they look wilted but the next day they're back up.

Hello Erica Hall, The compost alone is not the optimum growing media for cucumber roots. Pls remove some compost about 2 cm deep from the upper surface and add sands about 3 cm and use a stick to bore or make perforations about 8 to 10 holes up to bottom so as to ease sand particles move or travel down with irrigation water. The sand stabilizes optimum pH for the growing media that cucumber roots love. Try to keep it a bit acidic other than alkaline in properties. The the compost containing cow urine or cowdung or vermicompost or tricho-compost etc are ideal for cucumber roots. Ck in Plantix library by clicking on Gummy Stem Blight of Cucurbits if your plant is yet in save side from this deadly disease.

Sali thanks for responding. Are you saying I should remove some of the soil and replace with sand? Not sure what you mean by removing compost.
