  • Muskmelon Fruit Cracking

    Fruit cracking is an important disorder that can cause severe loss of marketable yield and revenue in muskmelon. Causes of cracking: 1. Blocking of growing tips by severe thrips infestation. 2. Watermelon Mosaic virus 3. Irregular irrigation schedule. Sudden irrigation after prolonged water stress leads to cracking 4. Irregular environmental conditions. Much difference in day & night temperatures causes cracking. 5. Calcium & Boron deficiencies. #fruit Remedy: 1. Follow uniform irrigation schedule. 2. Control sucking pests especially aphids, thrips & whiteflies. Install 80 Yellow & 40 Blue sticky traps per acre. 3. Watermelon mosaic virus = Control Aphids. 4. Give Calcium & Boron at weekly interval right from 20th day of sowing. 5. Use silicon base products like Ortho silicic acid in summers to avoid stress due to high temperature. This also forms a layer on leaf surface & causes hindrance in inserting mandible of sucking pests.
